WORLD ENGINEERS' CONVENTION

November 2-6, 2004 Shanghai, China


In recent years, great progress in engineering has been achieved, and significant contributions from engineering, together with science & technology, to society are beinghave been made. Engineering, compared with science & technology, has the most direct responsibilities to human society and thus demands more concern and understanding from the public.

The World Engineers Convention (WEC 2004), which is scheduled for November 2-6, 2004 in Shanghai, China, is sponsored by WFEO and UNESCO and organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Shanghai Municipal Government,
WEC 2004 was conceived in response to the global challenges faced by the engineers and managers of all nations, with the theme of "Engineers Shape the Sustainable Future". The convention is designed to provide a platform for engineers and students to interact and to discuss issues and problems of common concern. Seven panel sessions of various topics are included in WEC 2004. "Biological Engineering & Health Care (Session B)" is one of them. The following topics are included in Session B.:

B1. Engineering Technology, Prevention and Control of Major Diseases
B2. Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering and Replacement Surgery
B3. Interventional Medicine and Minimally Invasive Medicine
B4. Medical Facilities/Equipments, and Rehabilitation Engineering
B5. Bioengineering and Pharmacology
B6. Traditional Medicine
B7. Tele-medicine, Tele-education and Information Technology in Hospital Management

On behalf of the Program Sub-Committee for Session B, we would like to invite you to attend the Convention and to submit your paper if you are ready. We also wish, through your leadership, that the engineering and technology professionals in your country or in the IFMBE be organized in delegations to take part in the event.

The Chinese State leaders and the leaders of some important international organizations will attend this Convention and address the opening ceremony.12 key-note speakers will make presentations at the plenary sessions; a project show for future engineers, a video show of great engineering projects from all nations, web forums on three subjects, technical visits to six different sites as well as an accompanying exhibition in collaboration with the Shanghai International Industry Fair (SIF), will be presented. In addition, the local organizing committee will make arrangements for a very colorful social and cultural program for the participants and their companions, such as an engineers' evening, concert, acrobatic show, sightseeing in Shanghai and pre- and post- conference tours in scenic and historic cities in China.
