A new journal at the interface of the physical and life sciences

The Royal Society announces the launch of a new international journal, Interface, which publishes contributions from the interface between the physical sciences, including mathematics, and the life sciences. It provides a dedicated forum for rapid publication and interaction across this boundary: both sides of the interface are considered equally.

Interface publishes research applying chemistry, engineering, materials science, mathematics and physics to the biological and medical sciences; it also highlights discoveries in the life sciences that allow advances in the physical sciences. Preliminary and more speculative work of high-quality is encouraged. The journal also publishes authoritative reviews.

Interface welcomes articles on a diverse range of topics including, but not limited to:

  • biocomplexity
  • bioengineering
  • bioinformatics
  • biomaterials
  • biomechanics
  • biophysics
  • chemical biology
  • medical physics
  • nanoscience and computer science (as applied to the life sciences)
  • systems biology
  • theoretical biology
  • tissue engineering

Features of INTERFACE include:

  • rapid publication times
  • original scientific research (up to 8000 words) & short reports (up to 2500 words)
  • high-quality reviews
  • fully peer-reviewed to Royal Society standards
  • broad dissemination and accessibility
  • available online and in print
  • commitment to providing perpetual access

INTERFACE IS FREELY AVAILABLE ONLINE THROUGHOUT 2004 AND 2005.
