International Symposium on Cellular Engineering & NanosensorsDuring the past decade, Cellular & Tissue Engineering, Micro- and Nanotechnologies, Biosensors, Bio-polymer Sciences and Biomechanics have become key engineering disciplines. The focus on research and development brings together increasing numbers of scientists, and engineers to work alongside those from life sciences and medical as well as surgical practitioners in order to advance fundamental knowledge and ensure the practical utilization of such knowledge. Many biomedical engineers, medical physicists, chemists, biologists and physicians have moved closer together as part of a new era in the engineering of sensors, devices and cell based organ implants and tissues. The benefits of bringing together relevant disciplines to unite the experience of different professional backgrounds are enormous. The purpose of this symposium as part of the Annual Congress on Biomedical Engineering is to present and discuss new trends and new data on selected topics in the field of bioorganic and biophysical interfaces as well as functionalized micro- and nanosensors. The organizers of the "International Symposium on Cellular Engineering & Nanosensors" wish to extend their cordial invitation to you to participate in this meeting.

38th Annual Congress on Biomedical Engineering BMT 2004 The Annual Conference for Biomedical Engineering pays attention to this interrelation and invites engineers, scientists and physicians from universities, hospitals, research centers, and companies to take part in an interdisciplinary exchange of scientific knowledge and experiences. In co-operation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and its project supporters there will be organized open status seminars treating various scientific projects, centers of competence and scientific coordinators representing themselves in an exhibition. Since its implementation in 1967, the conference "Biomedical Engineering" (BMT) with up to 550 participants became the most important German scientific conference in this field. The choice of themes varies from issues like applied medical technology to subjects such as medical biotechnology. The conference takes place in the new centre of the Technical University in Ilmenau. It was in this university where the first European Institute of Biomedical Engineering was founded 50 years ago. On the occasion of this historical date a meeting of alumni will take place during the conference. We are looking forward to seeing you in Ilmenau!
