Chinese Society of Biomedical EngineeringReport 2004The Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering has been involved in holding more academic activities relating to biomedical engineering science and technology than ever, promoting its industrialization, and improving its application to the medical health care in China. Due to SARS in 2003, several national and international activities were postponed to the year 2004. The 6th National Congress of Biomedical Engineering was held in Wuhan of Hubei Province from April 22-26 of 2004. There were 1007 participants attending the congress. During the congress, the 6th Assembly of the Society was held. 73 persons were elected to be the members of the 6th Society council, among them 24 members were elected to form a standing committee headed by Professor Liu Depei. There are 10 Working Committees formed directly under the Society Council and, under the Society, there are at the moment 17 professional Sub-Societies covering different branches of the science of technology of BME in China. In the coming months of this year, the 2nd World Congress for Chinese Biomedical Engineering (2nd WCCBME) will be held during September 27-30 with 400-500 expected participants. The 7th Sino-Japanese Congress on Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Engineering will be held during November 2-4of 2004 with 200 participants expected.
