New IFMBE affiliated BME Societies

After the recommendation of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee (who has to agree that applicants for the Federation are eligible for IFMBE membership), the IFMBE General Assembly has recently voted on the membership applications of two societies. Both societies were approved for full membership of IFMBE. These two societies are:

• the French Society of Biomedical Engineering "Société Française de Génie Biologique et Médical" (SFGBM),
• the Nigerian Institute for Biomedical Engineering (NIBE).

In this issue, the News bring a short survey of the activities of the new member societies. The IFMBE now has 50 member societies from all over the world. For the first time in the Federation's history, the interests of the BME community of one country (France) are represented through more than one national society. The Federation is inviting representatives of the BME and related scientific and professional societies to make contact with the IFMBE secretariat and/or Federation’s officers and to apply for membership.
