Meeting Announcement
4th International Conference on Cellular Engineering
Nara, Japan, 30 November - 3 December, 1999
in association with the
INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION FOR MEDICAL AND BIOLOGICAL
ENGINEERING
The
4th International Conference on Cellular Engineering will be held at Naraken,
New Public Hall in Nara, the old capital city of Japan, on November 30 to
December 3 1999.
Cellular engineering is now undergoing a virtual renaissance largely due to
its important roles in biotechnology and medical technology as well as basic
biology and industries. Significant advances can be seen since the first
conference on cellular engineering was held at Keell University, UK, in 1995,
and even since the third conference in San Remo, Italy, in 1997.
The purpose of this conference is to present and discuss new data on
selected topics in the field of cellular engineering and exchange information on
new trends for the 21st century.
Topics
Methods for Cell Manipulation, Cell Surface Engineering, Cell Mech-anics,
Stress Response, 3D Cell Culture, Bio-Interfaces, Neuro-Interfaces, Gene
Delivery for Cell Hybrids, Artificial Organs, Tissue Engineering, Cell-Based
Sensors, Bioreactors, Osteogenesis Engineering, Modulation of Signal
Transduction, Modelling.
Keynote and Invited Lectures
- P. Aebischer (Lausanne University Medical School, Switzerland) "The
Potential of Genetic Engineering for Cell Transplantation"
- T. Kodama (The University of Tokyo, Japan) "In Vitro Coculuture Model
of Vascular Diseases"
Invited lectures
- G. K. Naughton (Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc., USA.) "Tissue
Engineering Constructs: From Lab Bench to Market"
- Doug Bartlett (University of California, San Diego, USA.) "High
Pressure Stress: Effects on the Evolution of Microorganisms in the Environment
and in the Laboratory"
- P. A. Lucas (New York Medical College, USA.) "Tissue Engineering Using
Pluripotent Mesenchymal Stem Cells"
Key Dates
Abstract deadline: 31st August 1999
Early Registration Deadline: 1 October 1999
Venue
The symposium will be held in the beautiful city of Nara. Nara is the
birthplace of Japan and has many historical places such as its shrine, temple
and many museums. Its convenient location allows you to enjoy the city. The
meeting place is the Nara New Public Hall, which is located in the centre of
Nara Park, home to numerous lovely deer. Kansai International Airport is served
by many major airlines and transportation by limousine bus and railway is
provided to and from Nara City. It takes about 90 minutes by bus from the
airport to Nara City.
