Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering2003 Annual Report The approval in July 2002 of the new Law of Associations by the Spanish Government has forced the Spanish Society to introduce several changes in its bylaws to comply with the new Law. An active role has been developed by the Executive Board during the last year, aimed at the edition of new bylaws compliant with the Law of Associations. The bylaws were approved unanimously during the annual meeting of the Spanish Society in November 2002. Since that date all members have had to renew their membership. The only thing that remains incomplete is the licensing of a Financial Identity Code, which is necessary in order to open a bank account to charge membership fees. The request was issued a year ago, but it has faced bureaucratic delays which have not finished yet. As was approved in the General Assembly of 2001, the term of the current Executive Board has been extended until the new Society is completely settled, compliant with the Law of Associations and the annual membership fees charged to a new bank account. The number of members up-to-date is 176. The members of the Executive Board are:
President:
Vice President:
Treasurer:
Secretary:
Other officers: The 20th Annual Congress of SEIB (CASEIB'2002) was held in Zaragoza, November 27-29, 2002 in the University of Zaragoza (Centro Politécnico Superior), with more than 200 delegates attending. The scientific program, chaired by Prof. Pablo Laguna, included 133 peer-reviewed papers structured in 20 oral sessions running in three parallel tracks and 1 poster session. The covered fields included Biomedical Instrumentation (25), Modelling and Simulation of Physiological Systems (11), Biomedical Signal Processing (26), Medical Imaging (18), Biomechanics (10), Biomaterials (1), Rehabilitation (2), Telemedicine (19), Health Information Systems (5), Medical Informatics (4), Clinical Engineering (1), Education (8) and others (3). Two plenary sessions were included in the scientific program, and another a round-table showing the different initiatives to form research networks on Biomedical Engineering. All the communications shared a high technical and scientific level and were published in a 539-page proceedings book. The next edition of CASEIB will be held in Merida, November 13-15, 2003. A web site is already active for news about this scientific event: http://gea.unex.es/caseib03. As is well known the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering Sciences (EAMBES) has started its activities after its Inauguration Meeting in June. Prof. Enrique Gomez, member of SEIB, has played an active role in EAMBES before its constitution, belonging to its ProTem Group, and currently hosting the web site of EAMBES. SEIB congratulates the ProTem Group and the organizers of the Inauguration Meeting of EAMBES for their successful results.
