Jean-Pierre MorucciIUPESM Immediate Past PresidentJean-Pierre Morucci was born in 1937. He received his BSc from Nancy University in 1959 and degree in engineering from Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Electricité et de Mécanique in Nancy. From 1962 to 1971, he worked as an engineer at the Atomic Energy Commission on the use of radioisotopes in medicine and during this period he received his Doctor of Engineering degree in 1964 and PhD degree in 1969. From 1971 to 1975, he was senior lecturer at the University of Paris 12 (where he was involved in the setting up of the University Institute of Technology and headed the Physical Measurements Department). In 1975, he became an Acting Professor at the University of Toulouse (where he was involved in setting up the Masters degree in biological and medical engineering Science and Techniques). From 1978 to 1986, he was the Director of the Center of Biomedical Technology of the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and from 1986 was Director of the INSERM Unit 305 [Biomedical Technology Research and Industrial Transfer, employing 70 people (40 full time equivalents)] until 1998. Since 1983, Jean-Pierre Morucci has been a Senior Professor of Bioengineering and Director of the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics (Toulouse University). He is author of several books and over 100 articles, has directed more than 50 theses, holds 13 patents and is a member of several bioengineering journal editorial boards. He was also the French delegate at the Commission of the European Communities (Brussels) in the Concerted Action Committee for Biological and Medical Engineering (1980-1990). Prof. Morucci was the Program Co-Chair of the IEEE/EMBS meeting (Paris 1992) and of the IFMBE World Congress (Nice 1997). He is a Senior Member of IEEE/EMBS and Emeritus Member of the SEE (France), Fellow of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering and Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Prof. Morucci was President of the IFMBE from 1997-2000 and President of IUPESM from 2000-2003.
