In the new information society, the contribution of these disciplines in healthcare is becoming more and more relevant. The Conference program will consist of both invited and keynote lectures as well as submitted papers dealing with latest research, development and technologies in these fields. The Conference will enable the participants to meet and exchange their experiences. They can share their views with experts and associate with colleagues from all over the world. The aim of this Conference is to promote biomedical engineering, to encourage its greater involvement in clinical practice and to give recognition to its importance and relevance in biomedicine and healthcare. MEDICON 2004 will incorporate also the 2nd Health Telematics Conference. This second edition, following the HT'95 aims to promote discussions, exchange of ideas and interactions about the rapidly evolving topics of Healthcare Telematics and Telemedicine. The MEDICON 2004 web site http://www.medicon2004.unina.it provides the most relevant and updated information about the MEDICON 2004 Conference. The web site will also manage the participants' registration, the paper submission, etc. Potential participants are encouraged to fill in the registration form to be kept continuously informed. On behalf of the MEDICON 2004 Scientific and Organizing Committees, I kindly ask your cooperation to participate and stimulate colleagues in submitting papers. The Organization is also pleased to provide infrastructure for special sessions, seminars, workshops; a commercial exhibition will also be held. If you are interested in organizing such events, please contact the Organizing Committee, addressing in the first instance Prof. Marcello Bracale. The venue of the congress will be Ischia, the 'green' island, the most beautiful and biggest island in the Gulf of Naples. Ischia is one of the most famous seaside and tourist spa centres of Italy and the world. The Congress will be held from 31 July to 5 August 2004 at the Hotel Continental Terme (http://www.continentalterme.it), which will also provide special conference accommodation. Ischia is famous since Greek and Roman times for its volcanic origin and for the beauty of its coast. At present, Ischia has seven municipalities, each characterised by local scenery and typical food. This "Green Island" enjoys a scenic location and is a favourite among locals and foreign tourists for their holidays from spring to autumn. I invite all of you to join us in Ischia to participate to MEDICON Health Telematics 2004. This Conference will be a good opportunity to sample Neapolitan hospitality and cement international friendships. Looking forward to meet you in Ischia, I send my best regards, Arrivederci in Ischia
