Port Harcount hosts 2004 Professional Development Course and 5th AGM/BEC

Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, "The Treasure Base of the Nation", will be hosting the 2004 Professional Development Course as well as the 5th Annual General Meeting and Biomedical Engineering Conference.

To improve participant's knowledge in human physics, instrumentation, informatics, radiophysics, genetic, clinical and rehabilitation engineering.

To update the technical and professional knowledge among members of NIBE and other professionals.

Course Content

Biomedicine - The Morphology of Man, Engineering aspects of Human System, HIV/AIDS as a Global Scourge and Occupational Health in Nigeria.

Engineering - Basic Electrical/Electronic Concepts, Instrumentation Systems and Techniques, Computers and Biomedicine and Principles of Maintenance

Bio-Medical Technology - Biomedical Equipment Design, Intensive Care Units, Issues in Genetic Engineering and Quality Assurance

Pre-Conference Seminar

A practical pre-conference computer seminar with the objective "to provide an improved understanding of the tool and techniques of the computer system in an Information Technology era" has been designed for the Science Professionals. The title of the seminar is: Developing the Scientist through Computer Systems

Call for Papers

Papers are invited from members of the scientific community. Authors of papers are required to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Focus on the theme or sub themes of the conference
  • Submit four (4) copies of the paper which shall not be more than 10 double-spaced-A4-sized pages (250 words per page) including equations, tables, figures and references
  • This should be accompanied with a copy of the diskette containing the paper in MS Word.
  • Authors are requested to submit in addition a short profile (Resume) of their academic and professional experience.
  • The person who is to conduct the presentation should be indicated.
  • Indicate the author with whom correspondence may be exchanged with the appropriate postal and Email addresses.
  • Indicate whether the presentation will be aided by the use of audio or video tapes, slides, posters, transparencies, etc
  • Every complete paper must reach the Conference Board by 15th August 2004.
  • Notification of full acceptance is expected to be given by 15th September 2004
  • Every author whose paper has been accepted is to duly register for the conference before October 10th, 2004 if his/her paper is to appear in the conference proceedings.
