Federica VattaThe Brain from Trieste
She received her Laurea degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering in 1998 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Trieste, Italy. In 2002 she received her Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering from the University of Trieste with the thesis "Modelling of the volume conductor of the head for brain functional mapping in the presence of morphologic pathologies" (supervised by Dr. Paolo Bruno and Prof. Paolo Inchingolo). Her research interests involve EEG inverse problem and modelling, applications of image segmentation (modelling and 3D imaging) and the lead field approach in forward and inverse bioelectric problems. She published 16 scientific papers in journals and conference proceedings. She has been awarded with a "Student award for best presentation" at the conference 3rd ICBEM 2000 (Bled, Slovenia, 8 - 12 October 2000) for the paper "Sensitivity of EEG source localisation to brain lesion conductivity as a method to improve source estimate position" (Authors: F. Vatta, P. Bruno, P. Inchingolo), as well as at the conference MEDICON 2001 (Pula, Croatia, 12-15 June 2001) for the paper "Influence of lesion geometry estimate on EEG source reconstruction" (Authors: F. Vatta, P. Bruno, P. Inchingolo), and at the conference 39th RMBS (Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA, 12-14 April 2002) for the paper "Accuracy of EEG source reconstruction in the presence of brain lesions: modelling errors and surface electrodes' placement" (Authors: F. Vatta, P. Bruno, P. Inchingolo). She is member of the Unit of Trieste of the Italian National Bioengineering Group (GNB) of CNR and of the IEEE EMB Society.
