IOC Medical Commission Olympic Prize on Sports Sciences

Sixth IOC World Congress on Sport Sciences

Dear scientists, physicians, therapists, and coaches:

The Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Congress Organizing Committee, are proud to be partnering with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to host the Sixth IOC World Congress on Sport Sciences, endowed by Pfizer. The World Congress allows delegates to participate in sport and exercise information exchange across the traditional lines of the disciplines.

Sport scientists and physicians are invited from the biological, physical, behavioral, and medical disciplines to share their knowledge (theoretical, applied, and clinical) with an international audience of scientists, physicians, therapists, and coaches. The invited speakers are prominent world leaders in their respected disciplines composing an educational forum of presentations and symposia of the highest order. This may be a once in a lifetime experience to gain the latest sports science knowledge and visit with the top scientists and medical personnel within these fields.

On May 28, the Congress will feature addresses by two recent recipients of the IOC Olympic Prize on Sport Sciences, Drs. John Holloszy and Bengt Saltin, as well as Pfizer/IOC Olympic Research information exchange.

Another highlight of this Congress is the social program. Lunches, coffee breaks, a cocktail party and an awards banquet will be provided to encourage interaction and scientific discussion on a more intimate and informal level.

St. Louis is excited to host this gathering after the very successful Fifth IOC World Congress on Sport Sciences in Sydney in 1999, which was attended by more than 1,300 delegates from 61 countries. Not only will you encounter stimulating sport discussions during the Congress in St. Louis, but you will be able to explore local attractions like the Gateway Arch which is the entrance to the American West and the Old Courthouse. We are delighted to bring together the Sixth IOC Olympic World Congress with the ACSM meeting.

Sincerely,
