Workshop on Biomedical Engineering Education for Chicago World Congress

The International Academy for Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE) was formed by IFMBE in 1997 with the induction of founding fellows taking place at the Nice World Congress of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. The current officers are as follows: Robert M. Nerem, Chair; Ake Oberg, Vice-Chair and Chair-Elect, and Tatsuo Togawa, Secretary-Treasurer. There are currently 32 fellows.

The main purpose of the Academy is to conduct programs which will serve to encourage young people entering the field and their development in the early stages of their career. In carrying out this mission there is nothing more important than the education of those young people who represent the next generation of leaders for biomedical engineering.

It is in this spirit that IAMBE is organizing a workshop on Biomedical Engineering Education for this year's World Congress of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering to be held in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. The workshop will take place from 23-23 July 2000, and will start on the morning of July 22 and continue until noon on Sunday, July 23. The workshop will focus on the development of new programs and the use of innovative educational methods in the teaching of biomedical engineering. IAMBE is particularly interested in the participation of young faculty from institutions around the world.
