Amalric Montalibet
The winner of the best poster presentation at EMBEC'02 (YIC).
Topic: Instrumentation and Measurement Applied in Biomedical Engineering.
Amalric Montalibet was born in 1973. He is now a young researcher in the Biomedical Engineering domain. In 1996, he
graduated in Physical Engineering, Imaging and Medical Instrumentation, at the University Jean Monnet, Saint-Etienne,
France, and joined the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM), in Unit 556, which is devoted to
therapeutic ultrasound. In 1997, he received his Postgraduate Diploma (DEA) in Biomedical Engineering from the University
Claude Bernard, Lyon I. From 1998 to 2002, he worked on the "Study of the acousto-magnetic coupling: detection of electric
conductivity gradients for tissue characterisation" under the supervision of J. Jossinet and received his PhD degree in
2002, from the Scientific and Technical University INSA in Lyon.
He designed a system for indirect measurement of a tissue's electric conductivity using ultrasound and magnetic field.
The interaction signal enables the visualisation of conductivity gradients along the ultrasound path. This type of
measurement associates the sensitivity of bio-impedance methods with the spatial resolution of ultrasound. This work
involved several bioengineering specialities, including electronics, ultrasound, magnetism and signal processing.
Amalric's general research interest concerns the study of bio-effect of electricity and ultrasound, with particular
focus in ultrasound-tissue interaction. He has undertaken postdoctoral studies at INSERM with D. Cathignol. His current
work specialises in clot disruption by means of therapeutic ultrasound.
