Young Investigators Competition

2nd European Medical and Biological Conference - EMBEC'02
Vienna, December 4 - 8, 2002

Deciding upon the two '1st Prize' winners of the Young Investigators Competition at EMBEC'02, was a real challenge for the experts who reviewed the papers and presentations, and for Heinz-Bodo Schmiedmayer, the Chair of the EMBEC'02 YIC Committee. Submissions from a total of 186 entrants had to be considered. The organisers decided to award the five best papers presented orally as well as the three best posters. Most of the papers that were entered in the competition were in the fields of Biosignal Processing (37), Modelling and Simulation (15), Bioimpedance (13) and Image Processing (13). This distribution was similar to the trends in author-interest for the whole conference.

The competition winners are presenting their research and themselves in this issue of the News. Please take the time to visit these reports and learn more on the activities of the top biomedical engineering scientists of the future.
