NEWS

The 4th International Workshop on Biosignal Interpretation (BSI2002) is rapidly approaching. The Workshop, which is an initiative of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) and the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), in collaboration with the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), the Japan Society of Medical Electronics and Biomedical Engineering (JSMEBE), the Associzione Elettrotecnica ed Elettronica Italiana (AEI), the Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Medica e Biologica (AIIMB) and the Polytechnic University in Milano will be held in Villa Olmo, Como, Italy on June 24-26th 2002.

The Scientific Committee has recently completed the review process of the submitted papers. Acceptance was notified to the Authors on March 18th. 136 papers have been accepted for presentation during the workshop in oral (54 papers) or poster (82 papers) sessions.

Ten oral sessions and 2 poster sessions were planned according to the preliminary program reported below. Sessions will deal with both innovative methodological approach to biological signal analysis and relevant applications to ECG, Heart Rate Variability, EEG, and EMG studies. Two invited speakers will deliver keynote lectures on Monday and Wednesday morning sessions. Prof. Alain Arneodo, Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal, Pessac, France will talk about "Fractal Analysis of DNA Sequences Using Wavelet Techniques" and Prof. Jose Principe, University of Florida Gainesville, FL, USA will talk about "Signal Processing Techniques in Neuroscience and Brain-Machine Interface". In addition, a Panel Discussion titled "Cardiovascular Variability Signals: Advanced Tools of Signal Processing and Physiological Interpretation" has been planned on Thursday afternoon with the presence of expert physiologists and biomedical engineers.
