Spanish Society of Biomedical EngineeringAnnual ReportSociety activities during 2004 have been centred on the changes faced after the adoption of the new Law of Associations signed by the Spanish Government in July 2002. Though the bylaws that were approved in November 2002 by the General Assembly, the licensing of a Financial Identity Code is still pending. This step is compulsory in order to open a bank account to charge membership fees. Although this request was issued nearly two years ago, it has faced bureaucratic delays that are not yet over. In the General Assembly of 2003, the term of the current Executive Board was extended until the Financial Identity Code is assigned. Meanwhile elections for the new Board are being delayed until the new Society is completely settled, compliant with the Law of Associations and the annual membership fees can be charged to a new bank account. It is desired to start the procedure in the General Assembly of 2004. A reorganization of the Society is also being performed. The number of members is being updated starting from the list of 186 included in the Society membership database, although it is foreseeable that the number of active members may be smaller because membership renewal has not been charged yet because of the reasons stated above. The main event during 2004 will be the 22nd Edition of the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society (CASEIB 2004), which will be held in Santiago de Compostela, November 11-13, 2004. A website is already active for news about this scientific event: http://www-gsi.dec.usc.es/caseib2004/. Deadline for submission of papers is August 1. As in previous editions, communications are being solicited in topics ranging from Modelling and Simulation of Physiological Systems, Biomedical Signal Processing, Medical Imaging, Biomechanics, to Telemedicine, Health Information Systems, Medical Informatics, and Clinical Engineering, among others.
