Slovak Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical InformaticsAnnual ReportThe Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics was founded in 1969 as one of the professional societies belonging to the Slovak Medical Association. It associates medical engineers, biophysicists and medical doctors from universities, research, development and industrial institutions. Clinical engineers and doctors are also represented. Since 1996 it has had two working sections: Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics. The Society is active mainly in the scientific and educational fields but also includes legislative activities with regard to the economic and healthcare system transformation in the country, connected with joining the EU. In 2003 the Society was involved principally in the following activities:
In 2003 the society had 43 active members participating in most Society activities but other BME specialists cooperate with the Society on an informal basis. There is a fruitful international cooperation with the Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics of the Czech Medical Association. The Society is the official representative of the Slovak biomedical engineering and medical informatics community in the IFMBE and International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).
