African Union of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences

Call for Membership

Preamble

The African Union of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (AUBES) is a union of national and transnational organisations representing various interests in biomedical engineering and sciences in Africa. It was formed in June 2003 based on a proposal made by biomedical engineering professionals attending medical-equipment training at the Valley View University, Oyibi-Accra, Ghana.

The overarching goal of AUBES is to enable Africa to contribute to and participate in the global "application of engineering and physical science theories and techniques to biological and medical research and practice".

Mission

The mission of the Union is to develop and advance biomedical engineering and science, health and well-being of African Nations through the use of modern as well as affordable and appropriate technology.

Objective

The objectives of the Union are:

  1. To promote the development of biomedical engineering and sciences in Africa
  2. To support and coordinate the activities of member organisations in the Union
  3. To build capacity and broaden competencies in healthcare technology, maintenance and management for member organisations
  4. To advance collaboration between national and transnational societies, industry, government and non-government organisations engaged in health care and in biomedical research and its applications in Africa
  5. To provide appropriate policy guidelines in professional, educational and ethical matters
  6. To encourage and assist in the formation of organisations for biomedical engineering and sciences where such organisations do not exist.

International Activities

The International activities of the Union involve scientific, technological, literary and educational meetings. AUBES is meant to hold International Conferences, General Assemblies and publish professional papers covering the various aspects of biomedical engineering and sciences.

Membership

Membership of AUBES is open to all national societies and transnational organisations with major interest or affiliation in the field of biomedical engineering and sciences.

National organisations are those who represent national interests in biomedical engineering and sciences.

Transnational organisations which may be regional, are those whose membership comprises individual members drawn from several countries, national societies and/or groups of national societies from two or more countries.

However, individual biomedical engineering and/or science professionals from countries in Africa having no national biomedical engineering and/or science society at this time, can join AUBES as Associates provided they register with the requisite enrolment fees representing their countries in AUBES. Interested national and transnational societies as well as individuals are invited to join the Union.
