Activity report 2002

of the Biomedical Engineering Section of the Hungarian Society for Measurement, Automation and Informatics.

Our Society together with MEDING, the Hungarian Clinical Engineering Society, organised the BUDAMED '02 conference. The event was held in Budapest, October 17, 2002. The conference was organised for Hungarian participants. It was a good opportunity to discuss the foundation of a Hungarian umbrella organisation for biomedical and clinical engineering. A declaration about the foundation had been prepared for the conference and the participants accepted it. A mailing list has now been formed and a web-site is being created for the Hungarian BME community.

Partly for the foreign participants of former BUDAMED conferences, we organised a special session at EMBEC '02 in Vienna together with the IEEE Hungarian Section. The aim was also to invite members of the instrumentation and measurement community to a biomedical engineering conference. More than 80 papers were submitted, two oral sessions were held and several posters were displayed dealing with instrumentation and measurement in medicine and biology.

Members of our Society took part in the organisation of the 10th Minisymposium of the Dept. Measurement and Information System, Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The Jubilee Symposium was held on 4-5 February 2003.

Members of our society have been taking part in the IFMBE actions "One voice", "Accreditation of BME programs". We have been taking part in the process of creating a European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES).
