Third International Conference Ageing and Technology - Starting into the Third Millennium

Technische Universität München, Munich, Germany 10 - 13 October 1999

International Society for Gerontech-nology is organising with the support of the WHO, a conference on the role of technology in an ageing society. The conference coincides with the United Nation’s "International Year of Older Persons”.

Gerontechnology encourages designers and engineers to take part alongside researchers and professionals in joint R&D programs to develop technologies innovative in their functions and acceptable in their social impact. Knowledge of ageing must be translated into products and services that can be made available on the market and accessible for all in need of technological support. Gerontechnology is a response:

  • to the challenges of a world of ageing populations
  • directed toward the preferred living and working environments of the ageing and the aged persons
  • multi-disciplinary, science-based and applied in nature
  • addressing age-related changes in human needs, interests and competencies with age and the adaptation and adaptability of products and services to those changes in the future.

The conference will provide an opportunity for experts in the field to exchange innovative ideas and to promote the autonomy, independence and social participation of older persons in the next Millennium.
