Welcome to NBC ’05 Umeå

13th Nordic-Baltic-Conference
Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics

Umeå, Sweden 13-17 June 2005

Welcome to Sweden

Welcome to the 13th Nordic-Baltic Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics in Umeå, Sweden 2005. This meeting is a regional meeting of IFMBE. It has proven to be a forum for biomedical engineers and physicists in this rapidly developing field of science and technology. The exchange of ideas and discussions around technical advances supports the ongoing development of healthcare and makes the NBC'05 an event worthwhile to visit.

Besides oral and poster presentations, various panel discussions and workshops will take place covering many interesting topics. In addition, advanced courses in biomedical imaging, signal processing, biomedical sensors and medical physics will be held.

The conference will be held in Umeå, a beautiful city in the north of Sweden, known as the city of birches. The river that winds its way through the city, the bright summer nights, the green parks and the many birch trees along the streets give this town its character. The undisturbed environment allows you to combine the cultural life in the city with nature experiences such as hiking, cycling, water rafting and canoeing.

Umeå is also the northern centre for higher education and administration in Sweden, with many research activities carried out at Umeå University and Umeå University Hospital. For example, the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Physics (CMTF) was inaugurated in 2001 at Umeå University. The center promotes research and development in that area. The industrial sector in Umeå is dynamic, consisting of major industries and smaller firms representing biomedical engineering, biotechnology, IT, and other industrial products. This makes Umeå a model city for modern advanced education and research, and a very suitable place for NBC'05.

Looking forward to seeing you in Sweden 2005!
