Mario Hrgetic Awarded for His Diploma WorkI was born in Zagreb, Croatia, on August 13th, 1979, where I finished primary and secondary school. During this education period I participated in several scientific contests in physics and mathematics. In 1998, I started studying at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, where I completed courses in industrial electronics and gathered knowledge in the field of biomedical engineering and electronics. During third year of studies I joined the workgroup at the Department of Electronic Systems and Information Processing led by Professor Mario Cifrek. Throughout the work on several different projects I had the opportunity to obtain experience and knowledge in the construction of electronic instrumentation. I also gained some basic knowledge in the field of intellectual property protection. During the ninth semester of the study I worked on the project of the EEG signal analysis at the University Hospital "Rebro", Department of Neurology. The goal was to determine the parameters of nonlinear dynamic analysis of EEG signals that could help to determine optimal position of stimulation microelectrodes in the DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) method of treating patients with Parkinson’s disease. I am interested in the fields of electrochemical and biochemical sensors and their applications. My diploma thesis is dealing with the sensors for oxygen concentration measurement. I graduated in September 2004, under supervision of Professor Mario Cifrek, with the theme: "Dissolved oxygen measurement system". For this work, the Croatian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CROMBES) awarded me with the 2nd prize of the "Annual award for the best university diploma thesis in the field of medical engineering" contest for year 2004. I am fluent in English, with knowledge of the German language.
