Invitation to Become a Member of EAMBES

To: National and trans-European societies, Academic MBES programs and research institutes

Dear Colleague,

We have the great pleasure and honour of inviting your organisation to become a member of the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES).

As you may know, EAMBES was inaugurated in Frankfurt/Main, June 14-15, 2003 bringing to a close the process that started at the 1st EMBEC conference in Vienna in December of 1999. The delegates to the inauguration meeting approved the statutes of this organisation and elected an interim Council and Executive Board to run its affairs as well as the interim Officers of its two Divisions (for Societies and for Academic Programs).

Attached please find a Flyer explaining the mission, objectives and proposed activities of EAMBES. The statutes as well as the list of elected officers and representatives and the minutes of the Frankfurt meeting can be downloaded from our website: www.eambes.org.

Membership in EAMBES is available through Divisions. For the present, two Divisions have been established: one for national and trans-European societies and one for academic programs and research institutes. The eligibility criteria in both membership categories are explained in the EAMBES statutes. The practicalities involved in becoming a member are the following:

  1. Complete the membership application form on our website (www.eambes.org),
  2. If you represent a society then use the form "Societies"
  3. If you represent an academic program or research institute use the form "Academic Programs"
  4. Print the completed form (as a PDF file),
  5. Sign it on behalf of your organisation and
  6. Mail it to:

The rights and responsibilities of members are explained in the Statutes. The membership fees have been set as follows:

  • For Academic Programs and Research Institutes 200 Euro per organisation,
  • The fees for member organisations from non-EU countries are adjusted based on the ratio of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) calculated per capita of that country over the average GDP per capita of all EU countries.

Please note that the first General Assemblies of the two Divisions are scheduled to take place during MEDICON conference in Ischia, Italy, July 31 - August 5, 2004.
