4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Medical & Biological Engineering Conference Report

The 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Medical & Biological Engineering (APCMBE ’99) was held from 12-15 September in Seoul, Korea.

This scientific meeting was attended by more than 850 scientists and clinicians from over 20 countries including the U.S.A., Japan and China. The conference afforded the opportunity to see the trend of international medical and biological engineering field in the form of the presentation of general topics and 400-odd presentations in addition to 50 special lectures.

The conference, which furnished the necessary information for domestic and foreign medical and biological engineering-related societies and industrial development through four-day scientific and supplementary events and placed emphasis on the importance of biomedical study, was an important chance to reconsider the relatively inferior domestic biomedical research environment and realise research globalisation.   The success of the conference can be seen in the larger-than-expected attendance of scholars, the wide range of programs, advanced special lectures, its thematic presentations and smooth progress.

APCMBE ’99 statistics

• There were a total of 64 invited papers
• A total of 366 free papers were presented, 156 orally and 210 as posters
• These papers originated from 18 countries
• 889 persons from 19 countries attended the conference
• The exhibition comprised 22 companies and 40 booths
