Progress in the preparation of APCMBE99The organisation committee for the Fourth APCMBE decided theat the conference would be held at the Hotel Sheraton Walker Hill, Seoul, Korea. The first announcement for the Fourth APCMBE has also been published. The second circular will be available at the end of October. A webpage was launched and dedicated to the Fourth APCMBE. It can be found at http://bme.hanyang.ac.kr/APCMBE99. The conference will be held from 12-15 September 1999. Increase of number of issues for KOSOMBE journalFrom this year, KOSOMBE decided to publish six issues of the KOSOMBE journal per year. Owing to the continuous increase in the number of submitted papers, four issues of the journal were not sufficient to publish the accepted papers in time and there were many papers waiting to be published. We hope that an increase in the number of issues will relieve this delay in publication. National conferencesAs usual we had two national conferences during this period. The last autumn conference was held in Yonsei University in Seoul and the spring conference was held in Chungnam University in Taejon. There was a sharp increase in the number of presented papers and participants. In the last conference, there were 150 presentations and approximately 500 members attended. First Korea-US joint workshop on biomedical engineeringKOSOMBE launched the Korea-US joint workshop on Biomedical Engineering. This workshop was supported by the NSF and KOSEF and held in Chungnam University in conjunction with the KOSOMBE spring Conference. Eleven delegates from the US and eleven counter-part delegates from Korea joined the workshop. Topics included biomaterial/tissue engineering, artificial organ/rehabilitation and neurophysiology/signal processing. After the workshop, delegates from both countries decided to continue this workshop on an annual basis and agreed to organise the next workshop in conjunction with the Fourth APCMBE.
